Disco Sisters and The Movement Charity working, and dancing, together for women

I have always loved to dance. In fact, any excuse to dance - a kitchen disco, a party, a wedding -
I’m there, the first and the last on the dancefloor. It makes my heart sing and brings me such joy
to move, with freedom. Dance has also gifted me strong connections. I’ve made lifelong friends
with some I’ve shared nights with under the mirror ball.

Last year I was inspired by a great friend of mine to start a women-only club night - just us women
loving life, free of hassle and judgement whatever your age, women dancing ‘til we drop. A night full of
classic tracks from the seventies to today that get you running to the dancefloor. And so Disco
Sisters was born.
Our first party, at The Big Chill in London, was an absolute ball, and while I watched our Disco
Sisters having huge fun, seeing the smiles and laughter between friends and the freedom that
these women so obviously felt, it reminded me what our mission is behind the sparkle and the
glitter. Every woman should always feel safe, wherever they are, whether that is on a night out,
walking home, in the pub - and in their own home. But sadly that isn’t the case.
So, inspired by International Women’s Day on March 8, we decided to elevate Disco Sisters to
more than a moment on the dancefloor by supporting the incredible work of The Movement
Charity through ticket sales to our next event on Saturday March 7. £2 from every ticket sold will
go towards funding a Disco Sisters’ dancer to go into one of TMC’s partner’s safe houses to offer
disco-inspired dance sessions.
One of the most inspiring aspects of IWD is the way it brings women together, just as Disco
Sisters tries to do. These moments of solidarity and shared connection matter. They allow us to
support each other, celebrate each other, raise each other up, as well as build individual
confidence and collective power. If the Disco Sisters and TMC partnership can help women
going through trauma get even a small sense of that, I will be delighted.
This year’s IWD theme #givetogain adds another meaningful layer to our next party. Anyone
buying a ticket to the Disco Sister’s event at Star of Kings in King’s Cross on March 7 can know
they are helping women going through trauma, who can’t join us on the dancefloor on the night,
to still have a dance and, hopefully, feel part of our sisterhood.
Disco Sisters’ favourite diva, Chaka Khan, sings “I’m every woman, it’s all in me”, reminding us
that women are capable of rising to any role and our experience is universal. We hope that Disco
Sisters helps to remind women through our TMC partnership, how important it is to support and
celebrate each other, and that we must each play our part in shaping a world where every
woman can thrive safely, to fulfil her potential whatever role she chooses.
